The cost-effectiveness and delivery study for HIV vaccines, conducted under the auspices of WHO/UNAIDS HIV Vaccine Initiative (HVI), Vaccines and Biologicals Department (V&B) of WHO, and aimed at assessing the delivery capacity and cost effectiveness of hypothetical HIV vaccines in different countries - Brazil, China, Kenya, Peru, and Thailand. The project will map out the challenges and the costs countries will be facing when introducing a future HIV vaccine, providing data to simulations in the VaccSim model, developed by Longini and Barth-Jones , to investigate optimal distribution patterns for limited quantities of HIV vaccines under various HIV epidemic scenarios. Therefore, we will be able to compare the effect on the epidemic of delivering a vaccine of variable efficacy to different target groups. By simultaneously running parallel models with and without a hypothetical vaccination program, the HIV cases and AIDS deaths averted from introducing the vaccine are estimated as the difference between cases occurring during the two model simulations.
