DepartamentoDEMQS - Departamento de Epidemiologia e Métodos Quantitativos em Saúde
Descrição:The epidemiological cross-sectional study aims to investigate the relations between work organization and the occurrence of cardiovascular disease risk factors among nurses. Specific objectives are: 1-To study the associations between nightshift, long work hours, sleeping complaints and the psychosocial stress at work and the occurrence of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases amongst nurses; 2-To evaluate the association between nightshift and long work hours with self-reported gain of weight; 3- To evaluate the association between complaints related to sleep and cardiovascular disease risk factors, considering possible sleep/rest aspects during nightshifts and 4-To identify the main mediators of the effects of long workdays and nightshifts in the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases, using structural equation modeling. The study will cover the ensemble of nurses (about 3300) who assist at large public hospitals (> 150 beds) in the Rio de Janeiro County. To obtain the study population, the 20 largest public hospitals (federal, state and county) will be selected. The hospitals will be visited and meetings with the nursing leaderships will be scheduled to disclose the study. A list of names and work sectors will be demanded for face-to-face approach.
